St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Park City Announces Sale of Historic Chapel to Invest in Future

October 10, 2025

Park City, Utah — St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Park City announces its intention to sell the historic Chapel located in Old Town on Park Avenue.

Proceeds from the sale will be invested in the modernization and expansion of the church's main campus on Silver Springs Road to ensure that the church can strengthen its presence and outreach in the community through its ministries and missions—now and into the future.

*Since 1889, St. Luke's and its parishioners have been active members of the Park City community," said Ted Clayton, Senior Warden of St. Luke's. "As our congregation grows, we are committed to preparing our campus for the future. Selling our beloved Chapel is a difficult decision, but it will allow us to better serve our members and the wider community for generations to come."

The Chapel, which opened in 1901, received historic designation from the Park City Historic Commission in 1988. It has played a vital role in the spiritual and cultural life of Park City. In 1996, the congregation moved to a larger campus to accommodate its growth, and today, that campus is in need of modernization and updating.

A local real estate brokerage firm has been identified, and the Chapel will be listed for sale in the coming month.

St. Luke's is hopeful that the Chapel's next chapter will continue to benefit the community. Park City has a rich tradition of repurposing historic buildings for new uses, such as:

  • The Kimball Art Center, originally a garage, now a vibrant arts hub
  • The McPolin Barn, preserved as a public park and event space
  • The Silver Star Resort, which integrates restored mining buildings into its design

Conversion to residential use is also popular in Park City.

*We hope the new owner will cherish the Chapel's significance and historic position in our community," said the Rev. Ashley Wright, Rector of St. Luke's. "St. Luke's Chapel will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we are grateful for its contribution to our fellowship and ministry."

St. Luke's invites the community to join in a series of farewell events celebrating the Chapel's legacy. Event details and updates are available at www.stlukesparkcity.com/events
