Reverend Pam serves in the liturgy at St. Luke’s and provides pastoral care both to members of the St. Luke’s community and the local community. She believes that deacons are called to help empower all the faithful to live out their baptismal covenant by ministering to one another.
Pam completed her Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. She graduated from Bexley Seabury Seminary with a Certificate in Diaconal Studies. Prior to her ordination, Pam did her field placement at All Saints Episcopal Church in Salt Lake City under the direction of Reverend Trace Browning. Before following her call to the diaconate, Deacon Pam worked for many years as a registered nurse. She has a special love for hospice nursing and has also worked as a therapeutic harpist in hospice.
Pam enjoys playing harp, gardening, cats, and traveling with her husband.

I've been St. Luke's Minister of Music since October 2004. During this time, I recall many experiences that touched and changed my life spiritually, as a musician, and as a person. I grew up in another faith, so it took me a few years to understand and embrace the significance of our liturgy and traditions and their place in my spiritual growth. It even took me longer to understand the purpose of my ministry. Even though I served under several rectors in our St. Luke's parish, I felt that my role was essentially the same, simply as being part of a team whose mission is to bring people closer to God. My music training at Brigham Young University prepared me to teach music, choir, and piano, but to become a minister, I had to learn other skills, which I could only do with God's help. Learning to recognize that each person is a child of God, a unique, precious, and loved individual, was part of my learning process.
When, in the past, I felt disenfranchised by religion, I sensed that God's love was calling me, and I felt it first with music. As you can come to worship at St. Luke's, please notice that our collective efforts are to become channels, instruments, voices, and angels of God's message to you. Sometimes, the delivery of our intentions is better than others. I hope you feel like you are part of the team by participating, singing along to our praises, hymns, and songs, and reflecting on God's message for all of us in the music.
Peace,
Manuel Clayton
